For more than 15 years, the Golden Rod and Reels Society hosts the Bullhead Fishing Derby as part of the annual Steveston Salmon Festival. Children under 12 and Seniors spend the morning with their families trying to catch a bullhead and other non-bullhead species. Prizes are awarded for the biggest fish caught but the derby is mostly a way to introduce fishing to a new generation and hopefully spark a lifetime passion. (2014 - 2018)
